MV Credit has participated in the financing of the acquisition of US-based ingredients distributor Maroon by Barentz, a Netherlands based distributor of life-science related specialty ingredients.

MV Credit, an affiliate of Natixis Investment Managers, was joint arranger of a PIK facility (denominated in USD and EUR), and also invested in the senior debt.

The merger will significantly increase the presence of Barentz, a Cinven portfolio company, in the US market, as well as provide a platform for further M&A in the Americas. Maroon and Barentz are increasing their exposure in non-cyclical end-markets, such as food and pharmaceutical ingredients. Both companies have demonstrated solid growth over the past few years, including throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Securing the underwrite was testament to MV Credit’s ability to provide flexible financing solutions tailored to suit private equity sponsors’ requirements, across multiple currencies,” says Guy Israel, Vice President at MV Credit.

The deal fits with MV Credit’s strategy of investing principally in healthcare, software, and food and beverages companies.
MV Credit’s involvement in the deal came about thanks to its long-standing relationship with Cinven, a tier one private equity sponsor. “Our last deal with Cinven was several years ago,” says Israel. “We keep in touch with all sponsors of deals relevant to our portfolio and you can never predict when the right deal will come along. In this case, it was a great fit for our portfolios.”
